ボランティア活動の一環として、スーザンはヒューストンロデオの国際委員会の委員を務めています。 今年は部門副会長を務める最初の年となり、会長のランディ・ポーリーが主催するコスタリカへ代表団として参加させていただきました。 一行は他の8人と共にコスタリカのリベリアで、リベリア・エキスポ（コスタリカのロデオ名）のメンバーと空港で合流しました。 マリオット・オートグラフ・コレクションのザ・マングルーヴという美しい海辺のホテルに滞在しました。 毎晩リベリア・エキスポでロデオ・イベントを鑑賞して過ごしましたが、その多くはヒューストン・ロデオから取り入れられたものでした：マトン・バスチン、カーフ・スクランブル、カーフ・ローピング、バレル・レース、ブルライディングなど。また、私たちはいくつかのユニークなイベントを楽しむこともでき、また毎年ヒューストン・ロデオを訪れる多くのロデオ関係者との交流も楽しみました。 毎晩グランドスタンドに招待していただき、VIPラウンジで素敵な時間を過ごし、有名な牛の牧場と馬の牧場を訪問するように手配してくれました。 忘れられない経験となったのは、コスタリカ大統領がリベリア万博に訪問しスピーチを行ったことです。 休憩時間には、皆んなで地元の観光スポットを訪れました。美しい滝まで乗馬したり、いくつかの温泉巡り、泥風呂、シュノーケリングをしたり、野生の猿に餌をあげたり、美しい洞窟を訪れたりと楽しい時間を過ごしました。素晴らしい人々と素晴らしい一時を過ごすことができた旅行となりました！
As part of her volunteering activities, Susan serves on the international committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This year was her first year to serve as a Division Vice Chairman so when her Chairman Randy Pauly invited her to join a small delegation to Costa Rica, she said yes! Together with 8 other people, the group flew into Liberia, Costa Rica and met up with members of the Liberia Expo (the name of the Costa Rica rodeo), who welcomed them at the airport. Two vans were hired for the entire trip and the group checked into a beautiful beachfront hotel called The Mangroove, a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. Every night was spent at the Liberia Expo, watching their rodeo events, many of which were adopted from the Houston Rodeo: mutton bustin, calf scramble, calf roping, barrell racing, bull riding, etc. We also enjoyed watching several events that were unique to Costa Rica! We met with many rodeo officials who visit the Houston Rodeo every year. They were extremely happy that we went to visit their rodeo and every night invited our group to sit in the grandstands, have drinks in their VIP lounge, and arranged for the group to visit a famous cattle ranch and horse ranch. One more exciting visit was the appearance of the President of Costa Rica, who came to the Liberia Expo and made a speech. In the downtime, the group checked out some local sightseeing: horseback riding to a beautiful waterfall, sitting in several hot spring pools, trying out a mud bath, snorkeling, feeding wild monkeys, and visiting a picturesque cave on the beach. All in all, it was a great trip with some great folks!
