In a major decision, a jury recently awarded $5.36 billion to homeowners in a case that accused major real estate companies of conspiring to raise the cost of selling homes. The trial lasted two weeks, and the jury deliberated for about two and a half hours before making their surprising decision. The lawsuit involved around 500,000 homeowners in Missouri who were seeking to get back $1.78 billion they paid in commissions to buyer brokers. The jury gave them $1.78 billion, which will be tripled under the law to reach $5.36 billion.

The case revolved around whether the National Association of Realtors and big real estate companies worked together to increase real estate commission rates. The jury concluded that there was indeed a conspiracy to raise these rates, and this affected the homeowners negatively. The verdict could mean that homeowners paid more for real estate services due to this conspiracy. The NAR plans to appeal the decision and try to reduce the damages. Homecoming is the tradition of welcoming back alumni or other former members of an organization to celebrate the organization’s existence. It is a tradition in many high schools, colleges, and churches in the United States. Clear Lake High School had their homecoming two days ago. They celebrated with a dance on Saturday, a football game on Friday, and a big parade on Wednesday. The parade was very fun and the weather was perfect. Each sport or club has a float that the members ride on. Joe used to ride on the Golf Team float and Ty always rides on the Wrestling Team’s float. Beforehand, many parents gather to help build the float. Then, once the parade begins, the spectators are delighted by the colorful and festive floats loaded with high school kids, throwing out handfuls of candy! All the children (and some parents like us, haha!) have so much fun. This is Ty’s last year of high school and this will be our last homecoming parade for a while, so we were super happy to be in town to catch it. All hail to Clear Lake High School, the school that Susan also attended!
