スーザンは日本から帰国して以来、まさに「ノンストップ」の毎日を送っています。帰国後すぐにオースティンへ向かい、その足でサウスカロライナへ飛び、さらにバイラー大学時代の友人たちと数日間サウスカロライナで過ごしました。その友人の一人、キャシー・ハーン・ゲンツェルさんは、実は1994年のスーザンの結婚式にも参加していた大切な存在で、それ以来一度しか会えていなかったそうです。30年ぶりにたっぷりと時間を過ごすことができ、チャールストンの観光を楽しみました。キャシーさんは素晴らしい旅のプランナーで、地元の見どころを完璧に把握しており、どこも素敵な場所ばかりでした。旅の途中で、キャシーさんの大学時代のルームメイト、ケリー・マッコートさんも合流し、3人で**Isle of Palms（パームス島）**という島を訪れました。Folly Beachを訪れ、地元で有名なRita’sで絶品のフライド・カレイサンドイッチを堪能したり、貝殻を探したり、日光浴を楽しんだりと、久しぶりの再会に心温まる時間を過ごしました。一方、海軍士官学校にいるタイにはサプライズで親友ジャック・フォルティン君とそのご家族が訪問。ジャックは空軍士官学校に通っており、体操チームに所属しています。ちょうど先週末に海軍と空軍の体操チームの対抗試合があったため、一家でアナポリスを訪れていたのです。カニを食べたり、リラックスした時間を過ごしたタイの様子が写真からも伝わってきました。オースティンでは、丈が期末試験に追われるハードな1週間を乗り切りました。ヒューストンでは、コウがザックと一緒にしっかりとお留守番。ザックは先週火曜日にゴルフの大会で好成績を収め、明日はWestbrook 中学校（通っている中学校）の代表として地区大会に出場します。頑張れ、ザック！

It’s been go-go-go for Susan, who came back from Japan, immediately left for Austin, then immediately went to South Carolina,  then stayed in South Carolina with some friends from her Baylor days for a few extra days. One friend, Kathy Hahn Gentzel was actually a part of Susan’s wedding back in 1994 and the two had only seen each other once since then. It was so good to spend quality time with Kathy, sightseeing around Charleston. Kathy is an excellent trip planner and knew all the hotspots to check! A couple days into this personal trip, Kathy’s roommate from Baylor, Kelly McCourt flew into town and the three of them went to an island called Isle of Palms. It was great fun visiting Folly Beach, eating at Rita’s (best fried flounder sandwich ever!), and looking for seashells/laying in the sun, and just spending time with each other after being apart for 30 years. Ty at the Naval Academy got a surprise visit from his best from Jack Foltyn and the Foltyn family. Jack attends the Air Force Academy and is on the gymnastic team there. Last weekend, his gymnastic team went against the gymnastic team of the Naval Academy which is why the whole Foltyn clan was in town! We are sure that Ty had an excellent time hanging out with Jack, as we saw pictures of him eating crab and relaxing in his off time. Over in Austin, poor Joe went through a series of difficult mid term tests last week. In Houston, Koh held the fort down with Zach, who had a successful golf tournament last Tuesday. He represents his middle school, Westbrook Intermediate tomorrow in his district golf tournament. Gambare, Zach!

2025年のヒューストン・ロデオは、3月30日に無事終了しました。今年も数々の記録を塗り替える大成功となりました。以下、そのハイライトをご紹介します。

総来場者数：
23日間にわたるイベント期間中、合計270万人が来場し、過去最高の来場者数を記録しました。

記録的なオークション実績：今年は、ジュニア家畜オークションを含む10の部門で過去最高額を更新し、合計**$29,652,317（約29億6千万円）**が売り上げられました。

アートオークション：Kinkaid Schoolの生徒ソフィー・ジョウさんの絵画「Nurture（育む）」が、アートオークションで**$276,000（約2,760万円）**という新記録で落札されました。

奨学金・助成金：今年のロデオでは、総額2,800万ドル超の奨学金および助成金が支給されました。その内訳は以下の通りです：

• 奨学金：$14.7M
• ジュニア展示会出展者支援：$9.7M
• 教育プログラム助成金：$3M
• 大学院生助手向け支援金：$481,100

ボランティア：

The 2025 Houston Rodeo ended on March 30. Here is a breakdown of the incredible record breaking numbers:

• Total Attendance:The 2025 rodeo welcomed 2.7 million guests over the 23-day event, setting an all-time attendance record. 
• Record-Breaking Auctions:The rodeo also saw 10 record-breaking auctions, including the junior livestock auction sales, which totaled $29,652,317. 
• Art Auction:Kinkaid School student Sophie Zhou raised a record-breaking $276,000 with her painting titled “Nurture” at the art auction. 
• Scholarships and Grants:The rodeo awarded over $28 million in scholarships and grants, including $14.7 million in scholarships, almost $9.7 million for junior show exhibitors, $3 million in educational program grants, and $481,100 for graduate assistantships. 
• Volunteers:The rodeo is largely supported by the 35,000 volunteers who assist in running almost every aspect of the event. 
• Payouts:A combined $2,533,500 was awarded to various riders and ropers, with individual champions taking home between $69,000 and $73,500.

While the 2025 Rodeo is over, the 2026 Rodeo is already buzzing with news! It was announced a few days ago that the 2026 Rodeo dates have been set for March 2-22.

Annika Charlotta Sörenstam is a Swedish professional golfer regarded as one of the best female golfers in history. Before stepping away from competitive golf at the end of the 2008 season, she had won 96 international professional tournaments, making her the female golfer with the most wins to her name. The ANNIKA Foundation aims to develop, empower and advance young women around the world through golf and in life. More specifically, we provide opportunities in women’s golf at the junior, collegiate and professional levels while teaching young people the importance of personal development, including living a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition. Invited by USJC colleague Rob Ohno, the CEO of the ANNIKA Foundation, Donna Cole’s Cole Chemical agreed to be one of the corporate sponsors. Donna invited Susan and her friend Sharon from Phoenix to join the More than Golf event in Aiken, South Carolina from March 28-29. This event included a female D1 Collegiate golf tournament (won by Georgia Southern University) and 24 executive women who had a chance to meet and network at a wonderful dinner reception. The 24 executive women also had the chance to attend a golf clinic and to play a round of golf on the (challenging) “kids course” at Old Barnwell. It was a meaningful event for these college golfers to meet the executive women and for Susan, it brought back fond memories of her younger years playing competitive golf. テキサス州議会は2年に一度開会され、その期間中は州都オースティンの議事堂で政治家たちが活発に活動しています。リアルターにとっても、テキサス州議会の議員と直接会い、不動産業界や消費者にとって重要な課題について意見を伝える絶好の機会となります。今年の「Realtor Day at the Capitol」は3月26日に開催されました。スーザンは前日の3月25日に日本から帰国し、そのまま荷物を詰め直して真理子と一緒にオースティンへ向かいました。スーザンは、州下院議員アルマンド・ワリー氏への訪問を担当し、事前に複数のトーキングポイント（話題）を確認して議論をリードしました。話し合われた主なテーマは、住宅の手頃さ（アフォーダビリティ）、固定資産税、水道インフラなど、不動産業界と私有財産の所有者に関わる重要課題です。このイベントには、テキサス州全土から約3,000人のリールターが参加し、ヒューストン不動産協会（Houston Association of Realtors）の経営チーム全員も参加するなど、大規模な集まりとなりました。

Every two years, the Texas legislature is in session and that is the time politicians are busy at the Texas Capitol in Austin. This is the best time to catch them and talk to them about issues important to both Texas Realtors and Consumers. This year’s Realtor Day at the Capitol event took place on March 26. Susan flew back from Japan on March 25th, re-packed her suitcase, and drove to Austin with Mariko to attend the event. Assigned to talk with State Representative Armando Walle, Susan reviewed several talking points and led the discussion.Topics covered included issues affecting private property owners and the real estate industry such as housing affordability, property taxes, and water infrastructure. All together, some 3000 realtors from all over Texas joined the event, including HAR’s entire executive team!

先週の水曜日、ロデオの「インターナショナル・デイズ」が無事終了しました。インターナショナル・デイズはロデオ初の9日間にわたって開催されるイベントで、この期間中、数千人の海外からのお客様がロデオを体験するだけでなく、ビジネスも行っています。どんなビジネスかというと、世界中から牧場主や農家が集い、牛などの家畜や、飼料、工具、栄養関連の商品を購入しているのです。今年は、75か国から2,290名の国際ゲストが訪れ、総額262万ドル以上の家畜が購入されたと報告されています。また、国際委員会は3月12日にホスピタリティールームでクロージングパーティーを開催し、イベントを締めくくりました。なお、スーザンは、ロデオ会長ランディ・ポーリーの下、国際委員会の部門副会長として務めた最後の年（3年目、最終年）となります。ロデオ本編はさらに6日間続いていますので、まだご覧になっていない方はぜひお越しください！

Last Wednesday we wrapped up “international days” at the rodeo. International Days is the first 9 days of rodeo. During this time, thousands of international visitors come to the rodeo to not only experience the rodeo but also to do business. What kind of business you ask? Our international visitors may be ranchers or farmers from all over the world and they buy animals like cattle, as well as items related to cattle such as feed, tools, and nutrition. This year we reportedly had 2290 international guests from 75 different countries, and they bought livestock in excess of $2.62 million! The international committee wrapped up their hospitality room with a closing party on March 12. This is the third and final year of Susan serving as a Division Vice Chairman for the international committee under Randy Pauly, our Chairman. The rodeo continues for another 6 days.
