先週は子供たちの春休みとなり、泰のイーグルスカウトプロジェクトを終わらせるための良い期間となりました。アメリカ ボーイスカウト連盟は、1910年に設立された米国最大となる青少年団体の1つです。小学校5年生から高校生まで参加でき、ランクアップするために特定の目標と課題を達成しながら、地域社会と関わり貢献、そしてリーダーシップを極めていきます。イーグルスカウトのバッジを手に入れるためには、地域社会に貢献するプロジェクトを達成することが必須となります。スーザンの長男・丈は、2021年にイーグルスカウトのバッジを獲得し、現在次男の泰がプロジェクトに取り組んでいる最中です。先週の春休み中に、12人のグループが集まり、彼の行く教会である、ゲートウェイコミュニティ教会に4つの木製ベンチを建設しました。デザインを自分で調べるところから、材料の購入、組み立てる方法まで考えました。完成後には色もつけ、誰でも座れるように準備ができました。あと少しで全ての過程が終わり、泰がイーグルスカウトのバッジを獲得する日が近いことを願っています。

Last week was spring break for CCISD and what better time than to knock out Ty’s Eagle Scout Project!  The Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest youth organizations in the USA, founded in 1910.  Kids from 5th grade through high school participate in service, community engagement, and leadership development while meeting certain goals and achievements to rank up.  The ultimate goal is to achieve the highest rank, Eagle Scout which requires a project that benefits the community. Susan’s oldest son Joe achieved his Eagle Scout badge in 2021 and now Ty is working on getting his. Last week during spring break, Ty organized a group of 12 friends to build four wood benches for his church, Gateway Community Church. He investigated the design, bought the wood and materials, then taught his friends how to cut and use the electric drill to assemble the benches at the church. They also stained their finished products and now the church is ready to use them. A few more steps in the process and Ty can hopefully reach his ultimate goal of achieving the rank of an Eagle Scout.

テキサス文化的な21日間がついに終わりを迎えました。毎年恒例のバーベキュークックオフが2月28日から開始し、ブルライディング(雄牛乗り)、バレルレーシング、羊乗り競争、その他多くの種目がロデオにて開催されました。またその裏では、学生たちの絵画が展示されていたり、動物たちのお披露目がありました。牡牛オークションでは、グランドチャンピオンが100万ドルを超える過去最高額での売り上​​げとなりました。ロデオの後には毎晩カントリーミュージシャン（そして数人のポップスター歌手）のコンサートが開催されました。私が個人的にとても楽しめたコンサートの一つは、ルーク・ブライアン（すごかったです！）、サム・ハント（私のお気に入りの曲を全て歌ってくれました！）、そしてケイン・ブラウン（奥さんの紹介もしました！）でした。カーニバルで乗り物に乗って、気持ちが悪くなってしまったのは苦い思い出ですが、バスケットボールのゲームでザックが景品と取りました！真理子はカーニバルのチケットブースでボランティアをし、海外からのゲストや友人と共に今年のロデオを楽しめることができたのは、とても素晴らしい思い出となりました。また来年まで楽しみにしています！

It was 21 days of pure Texas  culture, and it has come to an end. The Houston Rodeo kicked off on February 28, right after the annual BBQ Cookoff.  Houston saw bull riding, barrel racing, mutton bustin’ and many other rodeo competitions.  In the background, high school kids displayed their art and showed off their livestock, auctions took place with the grand champion steer selling for a record breaking $1 million!!  Each night, the audience was treated to a concert of country music’s biggest stars (and a few pop stars).  Our favorites were Luke Bryan (wow! What a show!), Sam Hunt (sang all our favorites), and Kane Brown (his wife came too!). Riding the rides at the carnival made us super dizzy, Zach winning prizes at the basketball game, Mariko volunteering in the carnival ticket booth, entertaining international guests and friends were all great memories from this year’s rodeo.  Until next year, good-bye Rodeo!
