攻とスーザンがトロントを訪れた時、福岡のチーズケーキ屋さんに出会いました。チーズの風味がありながらもふわふわで、暖かいままでも冷えた状態でも購入可能です。なんと、ヒューストンにも新しい日本のチーズケーキ屋さんができました！ チャイナタウンの9188 Bellaire Blvd, Ste C, Houston, TX にオープンし、ニッコーズ チーズケーキと呼ばれています。メニューをざっと見てみると、スライスまたは丸ごとで購入でき、＄20弱でのお値段となっています。プレーン、ストロベリー、ヌテラ、キャラメルなど、いくつかのフレーバーからお選びいただけます。チーズフォームをトッピングしたおしゃれなフレーバーティーも数種類あります（チーズケーキよりもティーの方が高い!?）。和風チーズケーキが食べたくなったらこの機会に是非訪れてみてはいかがでしょうか！クリームチーズが多めのアメリカンチーズケーキとは大違いで、日本のチーズケーキはチーズの風味を残しつつ、少しスポンジ状になっています。

When Koh and Susan went to Toronto, they ran into a Japanese Cheesecake shop from Fukuoka. It was fluffy while still cheesy and people could buy it warmed up or cold. Today’s news is that there is a new Japanese Cheesecake shop in HOUSTON!  It is located in Chinatown at 9188 Bellaire Blvd, Ste C, Houston, TX and it is called Nikko’s Cheesecake. A quick look at the menu shows that you can buy a slice or an entire cake, with the entire cake being just under $20. There are several flavors to choose from- plain, strawberry, Nutella, and caramel. There are also several kinds of fancy flavored teas, topped with cheesefoam (prices for teas are more expensive than the cheesecake!?). If you have been craving Japanese style cheesecake, this is your chance to get some! It’s much different than American cheesecake, which tends to be much heavier on the cream cheese. Japanese cheesecake is slightly more spongy while still has the cheesy flavor!

先週の木曜日、横浜からスーザンの友達がヒューストンまで来てくれました！ 個人の友人はあまりヒューストンに来る機会も少ないので、久しぶりに会うことができてとても嬉しかったです。 スーザンと膳 三絵さんは、JASが日本航空に買収される前、スーザンが日本エアシステム傘下のチャーター航空会社ハーレクイン・エアで英語を教えていた時に出会い、約25年来の知り合いです。 三絵さんは航空会社の幹部で、リーダーとして横浜から福岡に移住し、 夫の啓造さんはスーザンの家に宿泊し、共にテキサス内に旅行へ行きました：クリアレイク、ガルベストン周辺、アストロズの試合を2試合（1試合は大谷翔平の投球を観戦しに！）、その後、友人でサタケの新CEOである森山さんとサンアントニオ、ドリッピングスプリングスでバーベキュー、そしてオースティンへ、行きました。とても忙しい4.5日間となりましたが、沢山思い出に残る経験を楽しむことができました。 人生の半分、25歳の頃から私を知っている親愛なる友人たちと再会できてとても嬉しかったです!

Last Thursday, Susan’s friends from Yokohama came to visit Houston. We don’t get many personal visitors so we were happy to see them. Susan and Mie Kashiwade have known each other for 25 years, since Susan taught English at Harlequin Air, a charter airline under Japan Air Systems before JAS was acquired by Japan Airlines. Mie was an executive at the airlines and moved to Fukuoka from Yokohama to help lead the organization. Mie and her husband Keizo stayed at Susan’s house and together they went to several places: around Clear Lake, Galveston, two Astros games (one to watch Shohei Ohtani pitch!), then hit the road with their friend and new CEO of Satake, Mr. Moriyama, to San Antonio, Dripping Springs for BBQ, and Austin. It was a very busy 4.5 days but they did so many things together and made some long lasting memories. It is so nice to catch up with dear friends who have known me since I was 25 years old, half my life!

夏真っ盛りの今、案浦ボーイズは大忙しです！ 丈は福岡外国語専門学校で毎日 4 時間、週 5 日日本語を学んでいます。 日本語を勉強していないときは、スーザンの 20年におけるオーストラリア人の友人、クリスチャン ペリーのアシスタント教師を務めています。 彼はまた、ベイサイド プレイス カフェとルイス マトスの故郷のバー、オフ ブロードウェイ (スーザンが20代の頃にバーテンダーをしていた場所です!) という 2 つの場所でパートタイムで働いています。 ザックはついに博多小学校に入学し、書道や料理教室など、新しいことを毎日学んでいます。 泰は、海軍兵学校を訪問するために一人でメリーランド州に飛び、そこで夏期セミナーに一週間参加して、ここが高校卒業後に行きたい場所であるかどうかを確認する予定です。 攻は先週、パラサイクリングワールドカップに出場する日本のパラサイリストチームを支援するため、9日間アラバマ州へ行きました。 攻が帰国した翌日、スーザンと攻は横浜から4泊5日でヒューストンに遊びに来た25年前の友人、膳夫妻と楽し時間を過ごしました。クリアレイク周辺の地元のお気に入りスポット、ガルベストン、ボートで楽しんだり、アストロズに2試合観戦（もちろんショウヘイ・オオタニの投球を見に！）、そしてサンアントニオとオースティンへのロードトリップに連れて行きました。 ヒューストンにはあまり人が来ないので、来たらゆっくり時間をとって案内してあげることが大事です！ 随分前の話にはなりますが…私たち全員が福岡に住んでいて、まだ子供がいなかった古き良き時代を思い出すのはとても新鮮でした…！

Now that summer is in full swing, the Annoura boys are all over the place! Joe is thriving at Fukuoka Foreign Language College (Fukuoka Gaigo Senmon Gakkou), learning Japanese four hours a day, 5 days a week. When he is not learning Japanese, he is a teaching assistant to Christian Perry, Susan’s Australian friend from 20 years ago! He is also working part time at two different places, a Bayside Place Cafe and Luis Matos’ hometown bar, Off Broadway (where Susan bartended at when she was in her 20’s!). Zach finally started Hakata Elementary School, where he is learning some new things like Japanese caligraphy (shuuji) and cooking class! As for Ty, he flew alone to Maryland to visit the Naval Academy, where he will spend one week in a Summer Seminar to see if this might be the place he wants to go after high school. Last week, Koh went to Alabama for 9 days to help support the Japanese Paracylist Team competing in the Paracyling World Cup. One day after Koh came back, Susan and Koh welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Kashiwade, friends from 25 years ago, who came to visit Houston from Yokohama for 4 nights, 5 days. They took them to some local favorite spots around Clear Lake, to Galveston, on the company boat, to two Astros games (of course to watch Shohei Ohtani pitch!), and on a road trip to San Antonio and Austin. We don’t have many people come and visit us in Houston, so when they do, it’s time to take some time off and show them around! It was so fun reminiscing about the good ole days when we all lived in Fukuoka and no one had kids yet… a whole lifetime ago!

一戸建て住宅の販売件数は前年比18.3%減少し、これは2022年3月と2023年3月を比較した結果です。

不動産販売総額（一戸建て住宅、コンドミニアム、タウンホーム、土地）は9,589戸が販売され20.9％減少し、それに伴い総額も約20.2％減少して37億ドルとなりました。

一戸建て住宅の買い手が見つかるまでにかかる日数（市場に出てからの日数とも呼ばれる）は、38日から62日に増加しました。

価格に関しては、一戸建て世帯の中央価格は 3%下落し、 32万 5,000ドルとなり、一戸建ての平均価格は 40万8,647ドルとかなり低迷しました。

タウンホーム・マンションの販売戸数は10ヵ月連続で減少しましたが、実際には価格の中央値は 4%上昇し223,500ドル、平均価格は 6%上昇し 270,294ドルとなりました。

The latest real estate  market news for Houston was published on June 1. It recaps all the data as of March 2023. Here are some of the highlights:

The number of single family home sales fell 18.3% year over year, meaning March 2023 as compared to March 2022.

The number of days it takes to find a buyer (also called Days on Market) for a single family home rose to 62 days from 38.

Total property sales (single family homes, condos and townhomes, land) fell 20.9% with 9589 units sold, with total dollar volume dropping along with it, about 20.2% to $3.7 billion.

As for prices, the single family median price dropped 3% to $325,000 and the single family average price stayed pretty falt at $408,647. 

As for townhome/confominium sales, they fell for the 10th straight month, for number of units sold. But, median pricing was actually up 4% to $223,500 and average pricing was up 6% to $270,294.

In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation. Tuesday May 30, two of Susan’s friends were honored in an awards celebration at The Ballroom at Tanglewood. Jeff Syptak and Mazda Denon both work for the City of Houston. Jeff is the assistant to Mayor Sylvestor Turner, while Mazda is a Global Trade Manager for the Mayor’s Office of Trade and International Affairs. Susan was fortunate to meet both of them when they all traveled with Mayor Turner to Tokyo for the Japan Trade Mission Trip. One memorable experience was crossing the Shibuya Scramble on Halloween night with thousands of people in Halloween costumes! Congratulations, Jeff and Mazda!
