案浦家の長く大忙しの夏も終止符を打ちました。 まず、長男・丈はオースティンに戻り、テキサス大学の 2 年目をスタート！ 家族全員でオースティンまで日帰り旅行をしました。丈にとっての大きな変化は、キャンパスを離れ、他の5人のルームメイトとともに新築アパートに引っ越すことです。 問題の 1 つは、建物検査をパスできず、予定日に入居が不可能でした…。 期待外れのサプライズとなりましたが、相変わらず冷静な丈は家具などの収納のため倉庫を借り、その後友人のアパートのソファーで 5 日間過ごしました。 そして無事に25日に入居完了しました！当然、家に忘れ物も沢山したため、現在配達手配中です。笑　今年は、丈にとって人生の目標の 1 つであるマッコームズ ビジネス スクールへの編入に成功したため、親として、とても誇りに思います。おめでとう、丈！攻は、ヨーロッパでパラリンピックの日本代表レースコーチとして参戦しました。 8月22日にフランスのパリへ向けて出発し、ヨーロッパに3週間滞在し、フランスとスペインの両国でレースを指導する予定です。 ザックは8月21日に、ウェストブルック中学校に入学しました。最初はとても緊張していましたが、新しい友達もできたようで、どの教室にどの順番で行くかにも慣れ始めているようです。 泰は 8 月 26 日に SAT を受験し、大学への願書を仕上げる予定です。 多くの大学の願書に記入し、どの大学を受験したいかを考えるのはかなりの作業となります。 彼がもう高校3年生だなんて信じられません！ スーザンはHAR 理事会取締役選挙に熱心に取り組み、勝利直後、HAR会議のためにガルベストンに 3 日間訪れました。  家族、仕事、ボランティア活動を両立させるのは常に難しいことです。 スーザンと攻が旅行中に、ザックと泰の面倒を見てくれたスーザンの両親、クォック夫妻に感謝するばかりです。いつも、ありがとう！

The Annouras have been moving from here to there to everywhere! First up, Joe went back to Austin to begin year 2 at University of Texas. The whole family did a turnaround trip, driving to Austin and back all on Aug 20. Big changes for Joe include moving off campus into a brand new apartment with 5 other roommates. One problem is the brand new building did not pass inspections and move in could not take place as intended. This was a curve ball for us, but cool headed Joe just rented a storage unit and put all his stuff in there, then headed to a friend’s apartment to crash on her sofa for 5 days. His apartment was all done by the 25th so he moved in. Of course, he forgot many things at home, so now we are arranging the delivery of all the things he forgot to bring with him!? On a more positive note, Joe successfully transferred into McCombs Business School, which is one of his life goals, so we are very proud of him! As for Koh, he was hired by a professional paracyclist from Japan to coach his races in Europe! Koh left on Aug 22 for Paris, France and will stay in Europe for 3 weeks, coaching races in both France and Spain. Zach started middle school at Westbrook Intermediate on Aug 21. At first he was very nervous, but it seems like he has made some new friends and is starting to get used to which classrooms to go to and in what order. Ty took the SAT on Aug 26 and should be finishing up his college applications. It is a quite a task to fill out many college apps and to think about which universities he wants to try for. We can’t believe he is a senior in high school already! Meanwhile, Susan was extremely with her e-board election and right after her victory, she had to go to Galveston for 3 days for a Strategic Leadership Conference with the leaders of HAR. She also attended a 2 day leadership meeting for the rodeo the week before. It’s always a challenge to juggle the family, work, and volunteer activities! A special thanks goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Kwok, Susan’s parents, for stepping up and helping with Zach and Ty while both Susan and Koh are traveling and away from Clear Lake.

ヒューストン不動産協会では、選出された中の理事会の取締役メンバーを選出します。 執行委員会は、会長を筆頭に、次期会長、副会長、副会長、書記兼会計、および前会長で構成されます。 年に一度、8 月に取締役会は新しい秘書/財務担当者を選出します。 選挙後には、取締役の全員が 1 つ上の役職に上がります。 今年の選挙は8月21日に行われ、スーザンは他の5人の候補者と共に出馬し、 全員のスピーチと 2 回の投票の結果、決選投票でスーザンが選出されました。 取締役会のメンバーを務められることは大変光栄なことで、人生の目標の一つが叶った特別な瞬間となりました。 就任式は今年12月後半に行われる予定です。

The Houston Association of Realtors has a governing board consisting of an elected board of directors who then elect an executive committee.  The executive committee consists of a the Chairman at the top, then the Chairman Elect, Vice Chairman, Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and the Immediate Past Chair. Once a year in August, the board of directors votes on a new Secretary/Treasurer.  Once the new person is voted in as the new Secretary/Treasurer, everyone on the executive board then moves up one position. The election this year took place on August 21 and Susan ran against 5 other candidates. At the end of everyone’s speeches and two rounds of voting, Susan  won in a runoff election!  It is such an honor and a privilege to not only serve on the Board of Directors, but now to be a member of the executive committee starting in 2024 is a life goal come true! The installation ceremony will take place later this year in December. 

2023 年の夏は、ヒューストンで記録上最も暑い夏となりました。 8月22日に記録された97度の最高気温は、バイユー市で23日連続100度を超える最高気温記録に終止符を打つこととなりましら。 しかし、これも長くは続かず、再び 3 桁に戻る結果となりました。

ヒューストンの夏が暑いのは普通のことですが、今年は例年になく、100度を超える日が46日間続き、2011年に次いで、史上2番目の猛暑となりました。

ヒューストン市民は、猛暑に関わらず早朝か夕方に外で仕事をし、仕事後にはエアコンの効いた屋内で時間を過ごしています。

間もなく秋が到来し、 3 桁の暑さから解放される日も遠くはありません！ それまでは水筒を持ち歩き、十分に水分補給をしてくださいね！

The summer of 2023 has proven to be one of the hottest on record in the Houston area. In fact, the 97 degree high temperature recorded on August 22nd ended a streak of 23 consecutive days with highs over 100 degrees in the Bayou City. The break was short lived however, and we’ve returned to triple digits once again, with little relief in sight.

While it’s normal for Houston to be hot in the summer, this year has been a bit extra, poising to be the 2nd hottest ever, behind only 2011 which had 46 days over 100 degrees.

The residents seem to be taking it all in stride though, doing their outside work in the early morning or evening and spending time enjoying the air conditioned indoors.

The one sure thing though is that Fall will soon be here and there will ultimately be a break from the triple digit heat. Until then, please carry a water bottle and stay hydrated!

猛暑が続く毎日ですが、もうすぐ秋ですね！ 毎年恒例のレイバーデーの週末は、実は秋シーズンの始まりを意味します。 今年のレイバーデーは9月4日です。 月曜日は、多くの労働者にとって 3 連休の締めくくりとなります。 レイバーデーのパレード、パーティー、ピクニックで夏の終わりを祝う人が沢山いると思います。 米国初のレイバーデーは、1887 年にオレゴン州によって宣言されました。グローバー クリーブランド大統領は、1894 年にこの日を連邦祝日として宣言し、19 世紀に公正な労働条件を求めた後、勤勉なアメリカの労働者を称えるために創設されました。 家族や友人と共に過ごすための祝日であり、ハンバーガーやホットドッグ、そして季節の終わりを示すためにスイカをを食べる人も多いようです。 大学フットボールや全米オープンテニストーナメントを観戦する人もいます。  秋が到来し、気温が涼しくなってきたので、白いパンツを脱ぎ捨て、「レイバーデーの後は白は禁止」というルールが引き継がれている伝統的な祝日です。

Although we might forget about it with the current heat wave, Fall is coming!  The annual Labor Day holiday weekend signifies the unofficial start to the Fall season.  Labor Day falls on September 4th this year. The Monday caps off a 3 day weekend for many workers. Labor Day parades, parties and picnics have many celebrating the end of summer. The first Labor Day holiday in the US was declared by the state of Oregon in 1887. President Grover Cleveland declared it a Federal Holiday in 1894. The day was created to honor the hard working American worker after the 19th century push for fair working conditions.  Labor Day here is a day for family and friends and a break from the every day! Americans will feast on burgers and hot dogs and end of the season watermelon. They might watch some college football or even the US Open Tennis Tournament. And when it’s all over, and they head back to work they will all remember two things; Fall and cooler temps are coming and it’s time to put away the white pants and honor the traditional rule of “no white after Labor Day”.

毎年恒例のBeef Cattle Short Courseは、テキサスA&M 大学のキャンパスで開催されます。今年は、スーザンも8月7日月曜日にヒューストン・ロデオの国際委員会の指導チームとともに出席しました。主な参加目的は、国際家畜会議と呼ばれるイベントの責任者たちと一緒に訪問することでした。このイベントはヒューストン ロデオ中に開催され、有名な講演者が訪れ、牧畜技術から家畜の栄養、水の保全に至るまで、さまざまなトピックについて話します。私たちの会議に加えて、牛の顔認識、さまざまな種類の遺伝子検査製品、さらには最新の有刺鉄線フェンス素材などの新技術を展示するベンダーの大規模な展示会やブースを訪問しました。海外からのゲストが農業業界の最新製品やアイデアについて学べるよう、インターナショナル ラウンジに招待する可能性があるいくつかの業者からの情報も収集しました。イェーハ!!

The annual Beef Cattle Short Course takes place on the campus of A&M University annually. This year, Susan attended with the leadership team of the Houston Rodeo’s Inter national Committee on Monday August 7. The main reason of our visit was to visit with the folks in charge of an event called the International Livestock Congress. This event happens during the Houston Rodeo when famous speakers come to talk about various topics ranging from herding techniques to farm animal nutrition to water conservation. In addition to our meeting, our group visited a large expo of vendors and booths showcasing new technologies such as facial recognition for cattle, different kinds of genetic testing products, and even things like the newest barbed wire fencing materials. We gathered some information from several vendors that we may invite into our International Lounge so that our international guests can learn about some of the newest products and ideas in the agriculture industry.  Yeeha!!
