テキサス文化的な21日間がついに終わりを迎えました。毎年恒例のバーベキュークックオフが2月28日から開始し、ブルライディング(雄牛乗り)、バレルレーシング、羊乗り競争、その他多くの種目がロデオにて開催されました。またその裏では、学生たちの絵画が展示されていたり、動物たちのお披露目がありました。牡牛オークションでは、グランドチャンピオンが100万ドルを超える過去最高額での売り上​​げとなりました。ロデオの後には毎晩カントリーミュージシャン（そして数人のポップスター歌手）のコンサートが開催されました。私が個人的にとても楽しめたコンサートの一つは、ルーク・ブライアン（すごかったです！）、サム・ハント（私のお気に入りの曲を全て歌ってくれました！）、そしてケイン・ブラウン（奥さんの紹介もしました！）でした。カーニバルで乗り物に乗って、気持ちが悪くなってしまったのは苦い思い出ですが、バスケットボールのゲームでザックが景品と取りました！真理子はカーニバルのチケットブースでボランティアをし、海外からのゲストや友人と共に今年のロデオを楽しめることができたのは、とても素晴らしい思い出となりました。また来年まで楽しみにしています！

It was 21 days of pure Texas  culture, and it has come to an end. The Houston Rodeo kicked off on February 28, right after the annual BBQ Cookoff.  Houston saw bull riding, barrel racing, mutton bustin’ and many other rodeo competitions.  In the background, high school kids displayed their art and showed off their livestock, auctions took place with the grand champion steer selling for a record breaking $1 million!!  Each night, the audience was treated to a concert of country music’s biggest stars (and a few pop stars).  Our favorites were Luke Bryan (wow! What a show!), Sam Hunt (sang all our favorites), and Kane Brown (his wife came too!). Riding the rides at the carnival made us super dizzy, Zach winning prizes at the basketball game, Mariko volunteering in the carnival ticket booth, entertaining international guests and friends were all great memories from this year’s rodeo.  Until next year, good-bye Rodeo!

There is a brand new luxury highrise that just grand opened in the Galleria area.  It is located on the prestigious corner of Post Oak and San Felipe, right across the street from Whole Foods.  The grand opening ceremony was Feb 23 and Team Annoura scored invites from the general manager, Tommy Ku, who recently moved to Aspire Post Oak from Vantage Med Center.  Aspire Post Oak was developed by The Dinerstein Companies and it was an honor for us to meet Brian Dinerstein at the event (see picture!).  Above the seven floors of parking are 33 residential floors with a total of 383 apartment units.  The amenities are a-m-a-z-i-n-g and include a beautiful outdoor space with pool and hot tub, plenty of indoor and outdoor resident space, a dog park, 24 hour fitness center, virtual golf space, and even massage rooms. 先週、スーザンの所有する賃貸物件の1件に、強風が原因となった屋根への損傷がありました。 保険を使用しての修理は初めてでしたが、修理の依頼について全て終えたので、皆様にも保険を使用した場合、どうすればいいのか共有させていただきます！ まず、保険会社に破損状況について電話をします。 記録のために写真を数枚撮り、さらなる損傷を防ぐために青い防水シートなどで破損箇所を覆ってください。覆うことによって、今後の破損を防ぐために、こちらも対策をしていると保険会社に知らせることができます。 電話から数日後、保険会社から査定人が物件へ訪問し屋根全体の検査をします。(立ち会うことをお勧めします)  私の場合は屋根屋と一緒に査定・点検の立ち合いをしました。 検査後、査定人は保険でカバー出来るか、カバー出来る場合の費用について保険会社へ提出します。 後日保険会社から電話をいただき、結果を知ることとなります。 私の物件の場合、さまざまな部分に損傷があったため、新しい屋根に張り替えるための承諾をいただきました！ 保険会社は一定の金額を提供し、減価償却費を減らし、自己負担分を差し引いて（私の場合は1％でした）、小切手を送ってもらいます。 まだ受け取ってはいませんが、配送され次第屋根を交換する予定です。 これまでに保険を使用したことがなく、過程が難しかったり時間がかかるのではないかと心配していましたが、とても簡単にできたので安心しました。

RoofBody:  This past week, one of Susan’s rental properties had some roof damage caused by wind.  It was the first time I called on my insurance to come take a look. Now that I’ve been through the process, I can share it with you! First, call your insurance company and tell them about the damage.  Take some pictures for your records and go ahead and cover the roof with a blue tarp to avoid further damage. They want to know that you tried to help prevent further damage. After a couple of days, the insurance company will send a person called an adjuster. The adjuster will go to the property (you should go also to meet him) and walk all over the roof to inspect it. In my case, I also called my roofer to go there and meet the adjuster. The adjuster will then write a report and submit it to the insurance company with their opinion about whether insurance should cover and if so, how much.  The insurance company then calls you to tell you their answer. In my case, the roof had damage in various parts of the roof and qualified for a new roof! They offered a certain amount of money, less depreciation, then subtracted my deductible (mine was 1%), then mailed me a check.  I have not received the check yet but when I do, I will then hire my roofer to replace my roof and use the money from the insurance company to pay him. I have never used insurance to actually file a claim and was afraid it might be difficult or take a lot of time, but it really didn’t!

Not many people know that the first 10 days of the Houston Rodeo is a special time for our international guests.  People with passports and recent entry stamps can register at the international salon (on the 2nd floor of NRG Center) and receive special badges to enter the international lounge. The lounge is sponsored by the members of the international committee and some of Houston’s top restaurants, who provide lunch daily to our international guests.  There is also an open bar and plush sofas to relax on. The international committee of the rodeo (Susan is on this committee) serves as bartenders, photographers (Susan is on the photography team), hospitality staff, and chefs (on Friday only) for our international guests.  There is a day of education, cattle judging, rodeo Olympics, a formal gala (welcome new Consul General wife Mrs. Murabayashi!), and even a fashion show for the ladies. After the first 10 days of the rodeo, the duties of the international committee are finished and our guests go home.
