  • ロデオ・インターナショナル・デイズ終了！

    先週の水曜日、ロデオの「インターナショナル・デイズ」が無事終了しました。インターナショナル・デイズはロデオ初の9日間にわたって開催されるイベントで、この期間中、数千人の海外からのお客様がロデオを体験するだけでなく、ビジネスも行っています。どんなビジネスかというと、世界中から牧場主や農家が集い、牛などの家畜や、飼料、工具、栄養関連の商品を購入しているのです。今年は、75か国から2,290名の国際ゲストが訪れ、総額262万ドル以上の家畜が購入されたと報告されています。また、国際委員会は3月12日にホスピタリティールームでクロージングパーティーを開催し、イベントを締めくくりました。なお、スーザンは、ロデオ会長ランディ・ポーリーの下、国際委員会の部門副会長として務めた最後の年（3年目、最終年）となります。ロデオ本編はさらに6日間続いていますので、まだご覧になっていない方はぜひお越しください！

    Last Wednesday we wrapped up “international days” at the rodeo. International Days is the first 9 days of rodeo. During this time, thousands of international visitors come to the rodeo to not only experience the rodeo but also to do business. What kind of business you ask? Our international visitors may be ranchers or farmers from all over the world and they buy animals like cattle, as well as items related to cattle such as feed, tools, and nutrition. This year we reportedly had 2290 international guests from 75 different countries, and they bought livestock in excess of $2.62 million! The international committee wrapped up their hospitality room with a closing party on March 12. This is the third and final year of Susan serving as a Division Vice Chairman for the international committee under Randy Pauly, our Chairman. The rodeo continues for another 6 days. If you haven’t been, we highly recommend you go!

  • 毎年恒例BBQ大会！

    ヒューストン・ロデオは、私たちの街で最大のイベントです。ロデオ開始前には、数百名の参加者がベストBBQブリスケット、リブ、チキン、ダッチオーブン、そしてシェフズチョイスのオープンカテゴリーで競い合うBBQクックオフが毎年開催されます。ここ10年ほど、国際参加者向けの枠も設けられており、これまで日本からも招待がありましたが、今年は他国の参加を優先するため、日本からの出場は見られませんでした。インターナショナル・ビレッジ内のいくつかのチームはリブ部門でトップ10入りを果たしたものの、トロフィーが授与されるのは上位3チームのみでした。そして、ロデオ国際委員会の委員長は、チーム「Holy Cow Cookers」と共に出場し、驚くべきことにブリスケット部門で2位に輝きました！最終的には、全カテゴリーの合計得点が最も高かった1チーム、すなわち「Always Able But Confused Cookers」がグランドチャンピオンに選ばれました。BBQクックオフに行くのはいつも大変楽しく、特に各テントで仲間がリストバンドを渡してくれると、より一層盛り上がります。3日間、終日BBQを楽しめる大きなテントが一般公開されている一方で、ほとんどのテントは個人所有で招待制となっています。

    The Houston Rodeo is the largest event of our city. Before it starts, there is always a BBQ cookoff, which is an event where hundreds of contestants compete in the categories of best BBQ brisket, ribs, chicken, dutch oven, and open category (chef’s choice). For the past 10 years or so, the Rodeo has opened up a spot for international contestants to also join. In years past, Japan has been invited to join, but this year to make space for other countries, Japan did not come. Several teams inside the International Village placed in the Top 10 for ribs but none took home a trophy (only the top 3 teams get trophies). The chairman of the Rodeo’s international committee, competed with his team, Holy Cow Cookers, and remarkably placed 2nd in brisket! In the end, only one team was named Grand Champion overall, which means they go the highest total points across all categories and that team was “Always Able But Confused Cookers”.  Going to the BBQ cookoff is always a lot of fun, especially if you have friends in different tents that will give you a wristband to enter. Although there is one large tent open to the public that serves BBQ all day for 3 days, most tents are privately owned and are invitation only to enter.

  • HARとAMPI、基本合意書を締結

    ヒューストン不動産協会（HAR）とAMPI（メキシコ不動産協会）が覚書に署名してから6年が経過しました。そこで今年は、国境を越えたビジネスへの取り組みを再確認するため、AMPIのメンバーをヒューストンにお招きすることにいたしました。タイミングは偶然ではなく、ヒューストン・ロデオの期間中に行われるよう計画されていました。HARのグローバル委員会の主要メンバーが率先してお客様の送迎を手配してくださり、シティホールでの重要な会議（Pius Dawsonさん、ありがとうございます）や、メキシコ総領事館でのミーティング（Janette Penaさん、ありがとうございます）もセットアップしました。スーザンは国際ゲスト向けのVIPルームの利用と、金曜日に開催された素敵なロデオガラへの参加手配を担当しました。また、Ed Eakinさんのコネクションのおかげで、AMPIの皆様が木曜の夜のグランドエントリーに参加することができました。木曜の朝、当社グローバルチェアのJane ByrdがAMPIメンバーを対象とした委員会会議を進行し、HARの会長Shae Cotterがヒューストンでの覚書に署名。さらに、AMPI全国会長のKarim Oviedoがカウンターサインを行いました。金曜日には、Jane、Theresa Hill、Fallon Lawsonとそのボランティアチームが、新プロジェクト「London House」（Randall Davis氏がプロジェクトにご参加いただいております）を始点とするプログレッシブオープンハウスツアーを計画しました。この3日間はハイプロファイルなアクティビティが盛りだくさんで、両サイドともに素晴らしい交流の機会となりました。ご協力いただいた皆様、本当にありがとうございました。やりましたね！

    It has been 6 years since the Houston Association of Realtors and AMPI (the national association of Realtors in Mexico) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, so this year, we decided to re-dedicate our commitment to doing business cross borders and invited members of AMPI to come to Houston. The timing was not coincidental, it was planned to take place during the Houston Rodeo! Several key members of HAR’s Global Committee stepped up and offered rides to our guests, and they also set up important meetings at City Hall (thank you Pius Dawson) and the Mexican Consulate (thank you Janette Pena). Susan arranged for the guests to have access to the VIP room for international guests and to take part in a lovely rodeo gala on Friday. Through Ed Eakin’s connections, we were able to get all of the AMPI guests into the Grand Entry on Thursday night. On Thursday morning, our Global Chair Jane Byrd ran our committee meeting with AMPI members in the audience, and our HAR Chairman Shae Cotter signed the MOU for Houston, with the AMPI National President Karim Oviedo countersigning on behalf of AMPI. On Friday, Jane, Theresa Hill, Fallon Lawson, and their team of volunteers planned a progressive open house tour, kicking things off at the new Randall Davis project, London House. Needless to say, they had Randall Davis there to talk to the group! It was an action packed 3 days of high profile activities and both sides had an incredible time getting to know one another. Kudos to everyone involved in this event! Woohoo!!  We did it!!!

    For those of you new to Houston, the Houston Rodeo is one of our city’s largest events. This year, it kicks off on March 4 and ends on March 23. For all the details, please check this website: https://www.rodeohouston.com/. There are so many things to do when you visit the rodeo. There is a huge carnival for the kids, a livestock show inside NRG Center, lots of shopping for all kinds of cowboy goods, of course the rodeo itself, and nightly concerts. If you happen to have any guests who are arriving from outside the U.S. around early March and who have a passport stamp, you can send them to the second floor of NRG Center to register and enter a special lounge for international guests. Look for all the international flags and the registration desk or you can share Susan’s phone number so they can contact her if they need help to get a special pass (832-725-7880). International guests will need to show their passport with an immigration entry stamp to get their special pass. Once they have their special pass, they can enter a VIP lounge with great food and drinks and the opportunity to visit with other international guests and agriculture related vendors. Also!     ロデオ新人交流会

    ヒューストン ロデオの国際委員会は、2025 年の新人募集にすでに忙しくしています。応募は数か月前に受け付けられ、8 月 19 日月曜日に、これらの応募者は、経営陣との面接のようなプロセスである新人交流会に参加しました。空き枠が限られているため、国際委員会に参加するには少し競争率が高いです。合格者は今後数か月以内に発表され、その後すぐにトレーニングが始まります。来年のヒューストン ロデオは 3 月 4 日から 23 日までの予定で、最初の 8 日間ほどは「国際デー」で、海外からのゲスト向けの特別プログラムやイベントを開催します。

    The Houston Rodeo’s international committee is already busy recruiting our new rookie class for 2025. Applications were taken a few months ago and on Monday August 19, these applicants attended a Rookie Meet and Greet, which is a kind of interview process with the management team. There are a limited number of open spots so it is a bit competitive to join the international committee. Successful candidates will be announced in the next couple of months and then training will soon begin. Next year’s Houston Rodeo is slated for March 4-23 with the first 8 days or so “international days”, the days we have special programs and events for our international guests.
