Japan Festival Houstonが2026年9月12日・13日にHermann Parkで開催され、今年はさらにパワーアップ！例年の会場から大幅にエリアを拡大し、10万平方フィート以上のスペースを追加して、Hermann ParkからMiller Outdoor Theater、リフレクションプール周辺まで広がる大規模なイベントとなりました。ヒューストンらしい厳しい暑さにもかかわらず、多くの来場者が訪れ、音楽やダンスのライブパフォーマンス、武道、相撲の実演、Texas Kendama Openなどを楽しみました。そのほかにも、茶道、生け花、折り紙、盆栽、日本酒を楽しめるSake Village、そして2つのフード＆ドリンクエリアなど、日本文化を存分に体験できる内容が盛りだくさん！昨年は過去最高となる8万人が来場しましたが、2026年がその記録を更新したかどうかはまだ発表されていません。ただ、今年の大幅な会場拡大からも、さらに多くの来場者を見込んでいたことがうかがえます。
スーザンと真理子は2日間とも終日VIPブースでボランティアをし、ザックは土曜日にJASHのボランティアとして参加。さらにお友達のJPと一緒に日本人会のお手伝いも行い、たこ焼きや焼き鳥の販売を担当しました！みんなにとって楽しく、とても良い経験となったJapan Festivalでした！
Japan Festival Houston took over Hermann Park on September 12-13, 2026, and this year it got a serious glow-up. Instead of sticking to its usual spot, organizers expanded the festival to more than 100,000 extra square feet, stretching activities across Hermann Park, over to the Miller Outdoor Theater, and around the reflection moat. Even with the blistering Houston heat, huge crowds showed up for live music and dance, martial arts, and sumo wrestling demonstrations, plus a Texas Kendama Open competition. Beyond the performances, people could check out tea ceremonies, ikebana flower arranging, origami, bonsai, a sake village, and two sections of food and drinks. Last year’s festival set a record with 80,000 visitors, and while it’s not yet confirmed whether 2026 topped that number, the bigger footprint suggests organizers were clearly expecting an even bigger crowd.
Susan and Mariko volunteered both days all day in the VIP booth while Zach volunteered with JASH on Saturday and with his friend JP volunteered with the Nihonjinkai helping to sell Takoyaki and Yakitori. It was fun experience for everyone!
